A tip for the holidays?
In a recent nationwide survey of Angie's List members, 73 percent said they'll tip their service providers this season. And their biggest reason for doing so is to reward good work.
A related poll of service providers revealed that the average tip amount received during the holidays is $33. "If a customer already feels good about the services they're paying for and they still want to tip, that says a lot about the team. If I receive a tip from a customer, I give it to the employees to share," said Neal Trecartin of Trecartin Plastering in Waltham, Mass.
Service providers rated on Angie's List are also in the spirit. Eighty percent said they're giving holiday bonuses this year. Cash was the most popular form of bonus, followed by a gift and paid time off. "It's our employees that allow us to be successful throughout the year, and the holidays are an opportunity to remind them of the value they provide," said Bob Schmidt of Mr. Handyman in Bellevue, Wash.
Some other popular bonuses were:
- Catered holiday parties
- Gift cards to local restaurants
- Turkeys
- Party for employess and their families at a local fun center
