Angie's List 101

What is Angie's List?

More than 750,000 consumers nationwide use Angie's List to find out which local service providers perform the best work and which they should avoid, based on the ratings and reviews of other members in their area. Consumers pay a membership fee to access this information on Angieslist.com or via our call center.

Angie's List members rate and review professionals in more than 400 different service categories, such as plumbers, roofers, handymen, dentists, doctors and more. See the full list of categories.

How does my company get on Angie's List?

Companies get added to Angie's List when one of our members tells us about their experience in a member report. And it only takes one report to get listed.

Say you're a plumber and you just fixed a toilet leak for Mrs. Smith, who happens to be an Angie's List member. Mrs. Smith would sign in to Angieslist.com or call in and file a report on her experience with your company. First, Mrs. Smith would grade your price, quality, responsiveness, punctuality and professionalism on a scale of A-F. She can also tell us whether she'd hire again and give an overview about what the job entailed and details about her experience. View a sample report.

How does Angie's List work?

How Angie's List works, Let's say an Angie's List member wants to have their bathroom remodeled...
  1. The member signs in to Angieslist.com, phones into our call center or checks the coupon section of our monthly magazine (which includes discounts from A- and B-rated companies) to find a highly-rated local remodeler.
  2. We first share information on A- and B-rated companies (a company's standing with Angie's List is recorded on an A-F grading scale - just like a school report card).

  3. In addition to the company name and how to get in touch with them, we also share details such as:

  • Overall rating or grade on Angie's List
  • Reviews from members who have had an experience with the company
  • Number of employees
  • Areas of specialization, i.e. bathtub installation and tiling
  • Hours of operation
  • Acceptable forms of payment
  • Discounts available to Angie's List members

How can I encourage members to submit Angie's List reviews on my company?

We encourage companies to pass out report forms to every customer. However, only those that are submitted by Angie's List members will count toward your overall grade, which is based on reviews we've received within the last three years (current reports). The more reviews we have on your company, the better educated our members are when making their hiring decision. Current reports also increase your chances of winning our annual Super Service Award.

Keep in mind, Angie's List maintains a strict policy against self-reporters.

  • Angie's List does not accept reports on your company from affiliated individuals, like employees and family members.
  • We have strict precautions in place to prohibit a company from manipulating their way on to Angie's List, reporting on their own company or reporting on a competitor.
  • Members can only report on an individual company once every six months. This prohibits anyone from stacking the deck for or against any one business.

Can I monitor what Angie's List members are saying about my company?

Absolutely! Sign in to CompanyConnect (registration is free) to read and respond to reviews on your company. We encourage you to respond to any and all reports - good or bad - because Angie's List members often use a company's response in their hiring decision. If you need help getting registered, contact CompanyConnect at 866-843-LIST (5478) or CompanyConnect@angieslist.com.
